3 Stars June 2009 and no Jasper!
Pros:
+ Cheapest current gen system on the market
+ Huge library of great games (many of which can be had for cheap these days)
+ 6 (5 arcade + Sega Tennis) free games, all of which are good enough in their own right
+ Can be upgraded easily (Xbox 360 120GB Hard Drive, HDMI Cable 6FT: 1.3a Category 2(Full 1080P Capable)(Compatible with Xbox 360 & PS3), Xbox 360 12 Month Live Gold Card, Xbox 360 Wireless Headset, etc) to give the full premium experience if you decide you want it eventually
+ Console itself smaller, less bulky than I thought it would be
+ Motion controls are only a year out, ensuring the console’s game selection won’t stagnate
Cons:
- Though upgrading is possible, and even cost effective in all other respects, I must point out that Microsoft charges far too much for the Xbox 360 120GB Hard Drive, and the slightly cheaper workaround to this is just a hassle
- Console is known to have issues with overheating (covered w/free repair by Microsoft for 3 years, which softens the blow)
- Due to said overheating issue, an Xbox 360 Intercooler TS (the new, improved Intercooler which does NOT fry your console), and a fair bit of vigilance in not playing too long (I use the family timer), is necessary if you don’t wish to be sending this off to MS in a few months
- Amazon switched to an affiliate just around when I ordered and thus I received a Falcon 360 rather than Jasper. Very disappointed by this, as Jasper means cooler, more efficient chipset within the console, and as such, reduced chance of overheating issues. I went out of my way to read the reviews and make certain Jasper was a sure thing, and chose the Arcade unit over the Xbox 360 Elite Halo 3 Fable 2 Bundle for this very reason. I don’t blame Amazon, per se — they ran out of Arcade bundles and had to switch to an affiliate. Its just a really galling case of bad luck.
Conclusion: As it stands, I recommend new users strongly consider waiting to purchase this until 1) it’s sold directly from Amazon again, and 2) newer reviews confirm Jaspers are shipping again, unless, of course, you are willing to take a chance with an older model. Despite the cons, and my slight misfortune, I’m loving every second of my new system, and from a purely gaming perspective, highly recommend purchasing an Xbox 360. I just suggest doing it wisely and knowing the pitfalls in advance.
5 Stars New and improved arcade is wonderful!
The newer Xbox 360 arcade models that began production late 2008 and continuing now are built with a jasper chip inside that will keep the system much cooler and seem to have almost eliminate the possibility of a Red Ring Of Death. (RROD)
Included is also a new 175W power supply unit, as opposed to the old 200+W ones that are still out there burning up the old xbox systems.
You’ll notice that the arcade is MUCH quieter too, and a much more happy system.
I chose the arcade because it was a steal @ 155.00. Although it comes with INTERNAL flash memory only, you can always buy and attach a hard drive to the system. It also has HDMI, Ethernet port, and everything else the pro and elite have.
(Do take into consideration that you’ll need a hard drive to play original xbox games.)
Does the xbox you’re about to buy have a jasper chip? Read here to find out: [...]
5 Stars NOT Jasper for me!!
I feel obligated to review this: I bought this product on June 19, and i got a Falcon. My Power supply is 175w and other things that i checked were also for a Falcon, hopefully it wont give me the RROD error never! Beside this all is great, im very happy with my machine! It does NOT make a big noise while playing like i’ve read on other reviews! Its great! My gamertag is Joe UrruX lets FIFA09!
4 Stars Goog Service
Perfect State, Delivery at time. No Memory Card, the memory in this model is internal.

1 Star Not the newest version
After contacting Amazon.com, they apologized, which doesn’t fix the fact that this Xbox360 system is not the newest one with lower power usage and the updated chipset. Amazon.com offered a refund as they do not have any newer version available.
4 Stars XBOX 360
This unit by far offers the best combination of free games versus the other consoles..delivering 2 game of the year titles, halo 3 and fable 2 both which are awesome games! As far as it being the newest chip set…no its not the newest! The jasper units only official release has been in the Resident Evil 5 Elite Edition XBOX 360 (which im so glad i was able to pick one up for the same price).
The RRoD issue could still be a problem with these units but its not as likely as the early gen’s of xbox 360′s. Plus, if you do incur problems just contact microsoft/xbox and they send you free packaging so you can mail out your box for free so you can get it fixed for free…ive own the first gen white premium model, ive owned a black elite like the one im writin for now, and i currently own the resident evil 5 jasper elite and none of them gave me any problems at all! the jasper elite uses less energy, its a billion times quieter (i cant even hear it sometimes) and it has a cool red and black theme.
realize this people that xbox, playstation and wii have all had problems where people needed to return there units for something. just because xbox is more well known because of there RRoD doesn’t mean that the other systems were flawless! anything you buy isn’t 100% guaranteed to work, so use the free factory warranty or boost up and extend your warranty!
i think the elites are the best way to go versus the other choices. you get a 120 gb harddrive, hdmi cable and hdmi input, 2 game of the year titles which would cost you now about $39.99 for each game, wireless controller, head set and all the other tv cables.
if you can find a Resident Evil 5 Special Edition Jasper Elite then i suggest you buy that instead. Because as of right now those were and are the only jasper chipped xbox’s. plus you get resident evil 5 for free with is which is a great game as well.
the reason i rated this a 4 star instead of a 5 star is because they were putting 08 and 07 models in 09 packaging and reselling them with 2 GotY titles. i think they should only just sell jaspers now, but xbox is trying to get rid of all there older models because they stopped the manufacturing of them.
and please if your considering getting any of the other system, don’t even try to compare because xbox has its pros and cons and playstation has its pros and cons, but xbox has the best online live service out of all three systems (nothing compares to the xbox live you can ask a playstation or wii owner) and as far as gettin a wii for wireless i still say go with the xbox 360 because with the soon and future release of the Project Natal (which is controller less gaming) nothing will compare to xbox 360 then…to find out information about the natal go to [..] and view the video for it.
5 Stars THIS IS AWESOME
Got this for my daughters room and it runs so much more quite than my 360 and so much cooler. I think I am buy a second one for myself. Didnt think I would like Fable 2 but it has turned out to be one of my favorite games so far this gen. Very happy with my purchase. Thanks.
3 Stars NEVER BUY A 360 “SIGHT UNSEEN”
First off, the XBOX 360 is an amazingly fun system, XBOX Live only adds to it so I would give the console 5 stars easily. My review is basically due to the fact that Amazon is in fact touting this Elite as the “latest version” when, even as others claim, is not the case. The “latest version” as Amazon claims, would then be the “Jasper” chip set. Well, that is what gamers would assume, correct? Most, if not all, of the people reviewing this system isn’t for the XBOX 360 Elite system itself, but for the tagline “Newest Version” or “Latest Version”. I believe what they are doing isn’t intentional, but rather, advertising the system as the latest “bundled” version which it in fact technically is. Hardcore games read it as the latest “chip revision” which would be the Jasper chip set, but Amazon isn’t in the market to be able to make these claims, I simply believe they are advertising it as the newest bundle to be released. It is all a simple miscommunication or advertising. What Amazon SHOULD do is title it as “Newest Bundle” or “Latest Bundle” and not use the word “Version”.
But simply put, IF you want to save yourself the grief and headaches thinking you may get the latest chip set, simply do not buy an XBOX 360 via mail order. Find out for yourself by going to a retail store and looking through the break away in the back of the box. You may need to slightly jiggle the unit but you want to look under the “UL” logo on the back, for the line of text that starts with “12v”. In that sequence of letters/numbers look for the “12,1A” and that will denote that it is the latest chip set “Jasper” (until the next chip set revision is released in either late 2009 or early 2010 code named “Valhalla”. The arcade and pro units have this 12,1A already, the Elite systems though appear to be harder to find, however, the Resident Evil 5 Elite bundle recently released, as one poster mentioned, is in fact the first confirmed Elite system with the Jasper chip set. By the time you are reading this though, my guess is the Elite Jasper chip units will be in more supply at local retailers. It is impossible for Amazon or any online retailer to confirm this, as most will have no idea what you are talking about. Simply go to a store and check for yourself, it’s the easiest way to determine and takes the guess work out of it for you.
3 Stars Where are you Jasper?
For the third Saturday in a row I went to the local Best Buy to look for an Xbox Elite. Lo and behold they had THREE Elite units! These were packaged with Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda. I checked the informational areas I could see: this one was Lot #0842X but that’s all I could see. So, after checking with a couple of people about their returns policy, I bought the Xbox and took it straight home.
When I got it home and tried to open it up, I noticed that the clear plastic circle that goes over the opening edge of the box looked like it had been peeled off previously. Bad sign. I peeled it back and opened the box. The unit was in wrapped plastic you could see through and the tape holding the plastic wrap looked pristine. I flipped the unit to check out the back label and it had a voltage number of 14.2. So this is NOT a Jasper unit. Jasper units have a voltage of 12.1. So, I sealed everything back up and brought it back to Best Buy.
So the lesson I learned is that Elite units bundled with extra games may be old non-Jasper units Microsoft is trying to remove from their inventory. I refuse to keep a non-Jasper unit so it’s probably going to be a while before I’m back online with my Live buddies.

5 Stars It is a controller…
It is a controller. It is new. I have heard of some funky things where if you disconnect the headset and reconnect the HS will not work until the box is rebooted. The one that I got works well including the D pad.
5 Stars Black 360 Controller Wireless
This Products Was Like Brand New And As Described Worked Great No Problems At All.
4 Stars More show than anything.
This is the default Xbox 360 wireless controller with some awesome Halo 3 artwork slapped on.
This is an excellent edition to any Halo 3 fan’s collection, however, one must note that the controller itself is more of a “show-off” item rather than an actual game playing one.
The top plate of the controller has a smooth, glossy finish with the back side being of a normal matte finish, like the regular controller. The problem I have with the controller is that the glossy finish gets in the way of intense gaming. Sweaty hands may create a slippery or sticky surface, especially after long hours of gaming.
I recommend this controller only for diehard Halo fans, but not the regular and/or hardcore Xbox 360 fan. Any other game player should stick to the default Xbox controller.
From Xbox Live gamer, “Really Unlucky”.
4 Stars Good, but has some serious flaws to address.
The overall layout of the controllers is great, it’s easy to use, and all the buttons and analog sticks are in the best spots they could possibly be in. It’s extremely comfortable, my hands have never hurt even after playing for many hours.
The only drawback is the battery life, durability and keeping it clean. I have rechargeable batteries for both of my controllers and it seems the need to be recharged every 5-6 hours. They’re suppose to last 8 hours, granted I have owned the batteries for almost two years now, and rechargeables tend to lose their charge over time. I’ve gone through about 3-4 different controllers in almost 2 years because of durability. If you drop them head first the bumper buttons are likely to never work again, this is a very common problem. The analog sticks also get so worn that they don’t response very well. You’ll notice this once the sticks become harder to move or start to make a squeaking noise. They also don’t repel dirt very well. I’ve noticed they get dirty after only a couple weeks, this goes for the black controllers too.
Overall, these controllers are great. I just wish they’d fix the main issue I have, which is durability. I have to get yet another controller because my left analog stick is squeaking now and is a bit harder to move. And you pay $40-$50.
5 Stars GREAT product!
I received my ‘refurbished’ wireless controller sooner than the estimated delivery date. That reason alone is why I buy through Amazon. I sincerely do not believe that this product was refurbished. It is 100% flawless and had all of the stickers that normally come with a brand new controller. Either way, the product works flawlessly and was bought at a great price. I recommend doing business with this outlet. =)
